SUPPORTING THE HEROES
If there’s one section of the British Army that’s universally admired, it’s the bomb disposal units — the men and women who risk their lives to protect civilians from land-mines and other unexploded ordinance. It’s an honour for Creative Solutions to have the chance to support them.
Welcome to Carver Barracks
In the heart of rural North Essex, just a few miles from our headquarters in Newport, stands Carver Barracks. The home of 33 and 101 Royal Engineer Regiment, which traces its origins back for over 150 years, Carver Barracks is the UK’s central base for bomb disposal and explosive ordinance disposal.
The Regiment has over 2,500 serving personnel, many of whom have families with them — and, needless to say, all of these need a wide range of information when they first arrive at the barracks. Quite apart from needing to know their way around the camp and to have a clear idea what the Regiment does, they also require information about the wider community and the local facilities their families will be using.
The information booklet we produce is sponsored by a variety of local businesses that support the Army — and Creative Solutions is proud to be one of them. We raise more than £4,600 a year to cover the costs of the booklet, and we manage the whole process — editorial content, editing, designing, printing and publication.
From school to manoeuvres
The booklet runs to 32 pages of facts and contact details about the Regiment, what it does and where it’s stationed, and about facilities on-camp and in the local area. This covers everything from where they can send their children to school to where they can learn scuba-diving.
In addition to the main booklet, we create other literature, such as the programme for the barracks’ Open Day. Most importantly, though, we also produce deployment booklets for operational units going abroad.
These are aimed primarily at families, giving them information on family welfare support, guidance on Squadron achievements and contact points for the overseas deployment. They also offer assistance on relationship issues, bereavement, debt advice, child care, physical illness, mental health and guidance on personal security while the serving partner is away.
Welcoming the Regiments to our community
Carver Barracks is an important part of the community we at Creative Solutions belong to. Besides the information and support, part of the purpose of the booklets we produce is to help the personnel and their families engage with that community, making their time in the barracks more rewarding.
Considering what they risk for us, it’s the least we can do.

“Drawing on raw courage and resolve, Pavey led the team towards the survivors, constantly adjusting his assessment of the extraordinary real threat underfoot. This demanded nerves of steel, a cool head and clear focus. As the first responder, Pavey’s treatment was outstanding, stemming the bleed, reassuring the boy and extracting him to awaiting Afghan Police vehicle for evacuation; without doubt saving the boy’s life. Pavey’s conduct was extraordinary, placing himself in harm’s way to assist the badly wounded and traumatised survivors."
